On Thursday, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied, among others by Fritz Caillot, the Minister of Public Works of Hervé Pierre Louis the Director General of Electricity of Haiti (EDH), of Dr. Evenson Calixte, Director General of the Authority Regulation of the Energy Sector (ANARSE) and in the presence of the senators of the Center, Wilot Joseph, Rony Celestin, Wilfrid Gélin and the deputy of Boucan Carré, Jude Jean, as well as other local elected officials, proceeded with the commissioning of the 3rd turbine of the Péligre Hydroelectric Power Station as announced last March by Hervé Pierre Louis https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23735-haiti-politic-edh-promises-18mw-more-electricity-in-may.html bringing the total generating capacity of the plant to 54 megawatts.

In this circumstance, the Head of State thanked the international partners, including the German financial cooperation agency KFW, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the PEC fund Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14320-haiti-reconstructionthe-work-at-the-central-peligre-are-more-and-more-expensive.html who have financed these rehabilitation and commissioning works over a period of three years for $ 48.8 million. This rehabilitation work was carried out by the Alstom Hydro France-Comrlex Consortium.

The Head of State took the opportunity to announce to the population of the Central Department and the rest of the country, that work will be done to repair and build micro-networks to supply all homes with 24/24 electrical energy, inviting citizens to pay their electricity bills to enable EDH to continue to produce electricity and maintain equipment, promises to further strengthen this institution so that it can effectively perform its task.

Hervé Pierre Louis, insisted on the need to solve the sedimentation and maintenance problems of this renovated hydroelectric plant.

Peter Chistof Blomeyer, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Republic of Germany in Haiti, believes that this plant is strategic for Haiti, as it allows to produce clean energy and to respect the international conventions of which it is a part. This, he says, is an important step towards sustainable development. The IDB representative, on the other hand, justified the importance of this operation, while encouraging the Government of Haiti to continue its progress towards the progress and well-being of the people.

Recall that the first turbine rehabilitated of the 72-year-old Péligre Generating Station, was put back into service in August 2016,
