Haiti - Elections : End of rumors, there will be a second round

Several representatives of the international community went Monday at the headquarters of the Haitian Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to encourage this instance to review the disputed results of the presidential election of November 28, 2010. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-2196-haiti-politic-rumors-of-cancellation-of-the-elections.html

After a 90-minute meeting, Edmond Mulet, representative of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said "The recommendations of the OAS mission show the way to follow to resolve this impasse. It is to the authorities, it is to the CEP, to implement these recommendations or not, but it is a path to follow and that we wish".

Edmond Mulet has added that the ambassadors, including the representative of the EU, Lut Faber-Gossens, had pleaded for the continuation of the electoral process and the organization of a second round, while the CEP must publish in the coming days (between January 31 and February 2) the final results of the first round "the international community does not endorse, does not support, does not accompany the possibility of canceling the elections" has declared Mr. Mulet. "We simply want that the will of the Haitian people is respected and we are certainly for the continuation of elections," said for his part, Kenneth Merten, Ambassador of the United States in Haiti.

According to our information the CEP have given to the members of the international community a draft timetable for the second round of elections. While awaiting these results... CEP will sit at the National Electoral Challenges Office (BCEN) where should begin the hearing of the disputes of the candidates, this Monday, January 24 at 2pm. Two courts of 5 members including 3 electoral advisers and 2 lawyers of the CEP were put in place. These courts will operate simultaneously and similar cases will be grouped. 105 candidates have filed appeals.
