Haiti - Social : 87 Haitians transported like cattle

Saturday, during a control operation in the agricultural zone in the border Community of Magruno, the Dominican army forces intercepted a cattle transport truck, in which there was 87 undocumented Haitians: 70 men, 10 women and seven children aged 2, 4 and 6 years.

The Haitian migrants indicated coming from the cities of Port-au-Prince, Gonaïves, Cap Haitien, Derac, Fort-Liberté, Trou-du-Nord and other locations in the metropolitan area and the northern zone of Haiti. They acknowledged that they paid between 3,000 and 6,000 pesos to a "potea" (organizer of the trip), that they refused to reveal the identity.

The 87 illegal migrants were led to the military base (Fortaleza Beller) of Dajabón, while waiting to be repatriated to Haiti by the migration services.

The brand Nissan truck, was seized and the driver, Wilkin Rodriguez, 35, a resident of Montecristi, was arrested and detained for legal suites.
