Haiti - FLASH : Accident in Saint-Michel, 16 victims...
This Friday occurred in Saint-Michel (Mirebalais), a town about fifty kilometers from Port-au-Prince, or in Morne à Cabrit according to others sources (northeast of the capital), a road accident that caused 16 victims and 30 injured, according to preliminary information provided by the Haitian Civil Protection.
"A truck carrying passengers and goods capsized in a ravine. We counted 16 dead (13 women and two men were killed, including the driver) and about thirty serious injuries. There are many fractures to the head. People are in shock," declared Raymonde Jourdain, Technical Coordinator of Civil Protection for the Central Department.
According to lastest informations, the truck was headed to Port-au-Prince with a load of charcoal and avocados when the brakes apparently failed and the driver lost control.
