Haiti - Security : The President Martelly congratulates the PNH

In a note from the office of communication of the Presidency, the Head of State has warmly congratulated the National Police of Haiti (PNH) for his significant efforts in improving the security climate throughout the country.

"The decision of the Department of Defense of the United States no longer consider the Republic of Haiti as a high risk area with a high level of insecurity, from 1 June 2014, is an encouraging signal that reflects the results registered over the past two years in establishing an acceptable security framework thanks to the hard work of the police force with limited means yet.

The President of the Republic took the opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of his Administration to continue to support efforts to professionalize and modernize the PNH and and improving the working conditions our police officers in order to better fulfill their mission to serve and protect the community."

Moreover Réginald Delva, the Secretary of State for Public Security, welcomed the U.S. decision "This new classification is encouraging and will contribute to change the perception in respect of Haiti [...] The impact of this decision will be visible shortly."

As the Head of State, he welcomed the positive results of police authorities which enabled the country to experience a marked improvement in security, stressing that last December no cases of kidnapping had been reported.
