Haiti - Literature : Lyonel Trouillot, winner of Prix Carbet 2013

Wednesday at the 24th edition of the Prix Carbet of the Caribbean and of Tout-Monde, he jury named winner of Prix Carbet 2013, the haitian writer, poet, essayist Lyonel Trouillot for his novel "Parabole du failli" published by Actes Sud.

"Parabole du failli" 11th Lyonel Trouillot's novel tells the story of Pedro, a young Haitian actor who finally seems finally experience success, throws himself from the twelfth floor of a building during a tour abroad. In his native country, one of the two friends with whom he shared to the haphazardly of nights a modest apartment, then tries, between anger and love, to understand the reasons for this action.

"On the mode of a charging instruction, I wanted, by tracing the path of a suicide, ask ordinary wickedness. Is there a lack of communication [...] a missed call ? It was through the destiny of an individual, to report on the inability of language face the social structures in society and temperamental that make that we can as inadvertently look the other spend his life to die [...] It is not life and death of Pedro that are told, but preferably speeches that are woven to form a cry whose the narrator knows he will never be able to replicate that of the disappeared."

Recall that the Prix Carbet of the Caribbean and Tout-Monde, was created to reward and promote a work of reflection or fiction illustrating the unity-diversity of the Caribbean and the Americas. The winner receives a check of $5000 and a trophy. Note that Lyonel Trouillot the 9th Haitian to win this award. In 2006 it was the writer Georges Castera who won this award with " Le trou du souffleur et l’encre est ma demeure" and in 2009 it was Evelyne Trouillot with his book "La mémoire aux abois".
