Haiti - Politic : Venezuela contests the interference of the World Bank

Following the remarks of Mary Barton-Dock, the Special Envoy of the World Bank (WB) last Wednesday, which had criticized the lack of transparency and details about the Petrocaribe program, statements who had made strongly reacted Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe on the same day in the Council of Ministers, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10022-haiti-economy-wb-critical-about-the-lack-of-transparency-of-petrocaribe-fund.html , Ambassador of Venezuela to Haiti, Pedro Antonio Canino Gonzales reacted in turn to the statement of Mrs. Barton-Dock.

The diplomat declared Sunday that the World Bank had no right to interfere in the Petrocaribe program, which involves bilateral cooperation between Venezuela and Haiti and demanded explanations regarding these criticisms and request details. The Venezuelan ambassador described as "insolent" this approach, especially as his country is, according to him, completely satisfied with the operation and management of this fund by Haiti.

Finally, the Ambassador recalled that the revolution led by the late Commander Hugo Chavez, aimed especially to put aside the imperialist institutions like the World Bank, of conomic actions of Venezuela, to enable it to establish independent partnerships with the countries of its choice.
